In this emotional story, Dan Walsh takes readers on a journey to rediscover the things that matter most in life--love, truth, and family.
Review:
What Follows After is not my usual reading material. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it or not. But I was pleasantly surprised. The characters were well-developed and strong. The writing was plain but good. The beginning was a little slow, but after that the pacing was rather fast. What Follows After was interesting and engaging. I think this is because there were just enough points-of-view to keep it fresh and help the story along.
This is a book about a family that has been split apart. The plot was simple but solid. I believe any couple having trouble in their marriage would benefit from reading this book. I related less to the morals and lessons taught because I’m not married.
The research put into this book was also impressive. The author captured the panic of Americans when we thought there was going to be World War III during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
One thing I will say about this book was that I caught a lot of clichés such as “flat as a pancake” or “strong as a lion”. Original phrasing is not the author’s strong point. However, telling a story well is. The difficulties that the family in the book was having were real and relevant to today, though the book is set fifty+ years ago. I don’t think this book is for everyone. I recommend it to anyone who is married and/or has kids.
It is difficult to rate some books. Since this book was not directed toward young single people like me I did not enjoy it as much since I could not relate. However, it was still an enjoyable, easy-to-read story. I’m giving What Follows After 4 out of 5 stars.
