A Moment of Courage
Perhaps it’s a necessity to be courageous.
However, if it were ever put to me
I believe I would fail, most undoubtedly.
Yet the moment might count me stronger
Than the hours to myself of rational thought.
The minute might inculcate bravery God-wrought
Upon my cowardly, trembling heart.
Perhaps it’s a necessity to be courageous
Yet only the moment could ever tell us
Not a lifetime of concentration
Not an hour of fervent prayer for consolation.
Could peace rob fear of speech?
Could courage halt the trembling?
Could one tear stop the others
When the rest see the fate of the one?
Only the moment could tell.
So I shan’t worry of courage…
And let the future worry itself.
